PhD Student

Manuel Giacomarra works on a project concerning the development of new therapeutic approaches to be applied to Glioblastoma, defining in particular the efficacy of new potential drugs directly on explants generated from tumor tissue of affected patients and evaluating their response thanks to an innovative approach that allows to define changes in metabolism by applying the Fluorescent Lifetime Imaging Microscopy (FLIM) technique.

A further goal of the project is to define specific gene expression patterns that can be correlated to drug responsiveness, by applying Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) techniques, in order to identify new possible biomarkers useful in the stratification of the pathology.

Manuel holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and a master’s degree in molecular and cellular biology at the University of Pisa.

Manuel is a PhD student of the course in Translational Medicine at the Scuola Superiore Sant’anna and conducts his research at “Fondazione Pisana per la Scienza” under the supervision of Dr. Fabio Beltram and Dr. Chiara Maria Mazzanti.
